11 TV Marathons To Get You Through Storm Nemo Posted: 09 Feb 2013 12:51 PM PST With Storm Nemo in our midst, the activities on the eastern side of the country are quite limited these days. So for those of you east-coasters with lots of extra indoors time on your hands (or west-coasters, too, for that matter), we’ve compiled a list of the top 11 TV shows to catch up on in lieu of the upcoming Spring season. Whether it’s a show you’ve been meaning to start watching, or a show you miss and want to re-watch, take a look at our list and indulge in the lack of eating, sleeping, or doing anything else kind of binge that is beginning a new TV series. If it’s one of the shows in our list, you’ll be glad you did! 1. Arrested Development. A tongue-in-cheek comedy that tried to gather its footing in mainstream TV. Based around the hilarity that is the dysfunctional Bluth family, the three-season long show had all the right material, but all the wrong publicity. After tepid ratings, the show got cancelled by FOX in 2006, much to the fans’ despair. However, after 6 years of silence, the cast (Jason Bateman and Michael Cera in their breakout roles) and creators reunited to announce the production of a fourth season to be released exclusively on Netflix in May, 2013. After watching the first three seasons, you’ll be itching for the fourth. And with all 52 episodes on Netflix, it only makes sense to start the show from the beginning in preparation for one of the most highly anticipated revivals of the season. 2. Downton Abbey. This British show serves as the highest rated show to ever air on PBS, creating buzz all over the American TV world. With an explosive cast including Harry Potter‘s Maggie Smith, and awards being thrown at the show left and right, it’s been called “one of the best shows Britain has ever created.” The best and worst part about British shows is that they have short seasons. All three seasons are available to buy on itunes, which includes episodes that haven’t aired yet, here in America, giving us the entire British soap opera series at our fingertips — including this season’s striking finale. 3. Breaking Bad – It’s almost impossible to have a conversation these days about TV without mentioning AMC’s Breaking Bad. This show has been raved about from the day it first premiered back in 2008, catapulting its stars, Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston, into super-stardom. The show’s fifth season is returning in March, so now is the perfect time to catch up with TV’s hottest meth makers, fresh off of a successful Emmy season.
4. House of Cards. This is the first original series to be produced and aired exclusively on Netflix, meaning that it could be a hit or miss of a show. Critics and viewers agree that the show is a hit, and is fit to be aired on a more public platform. The all star cast, including Kevin Spacey, and the curiosity alone will make you want to watch. There is really no reason to not watch this show. The entire first season of 13 episodes is available on Netflix, and so far, the first season can’t be watched fast or often enough. There’s as much quality as there is quantity. 5. Mad Men. When Mad Men premiered in 2007, it quickly became the frontrunner of a series of AMC hits. Set in the fascinating venue of 1960′s New York, this drama will get it’s hooks in you from the very beginning. With the first 4 seasons all available on Netflix, it’s easily accessible to get ready for the shows highly anticipated 5th season premiering in April. And if nothing else, the lead is played by Jon Hamm, who is either shirtless, or dressed to the nines in every episode. Enough said. 6. The Walking Dead. Everything about this show is unprecedented. AMC took a risk making a show with very short seasons revolving around a zombie apocalyptic world, but if the rave reviews and amazing ratings are any indication, it more than paid off. With all this talk of zombies these days, it’s exciting to get a well-written show giving all the worrying people out there a real take on the eternal question of “What if Zombies actually did take over the world?” Practically speaking, the show has only 2 short, but action-packed seasons all available on Netflix. Also, with Season 3 returning on Sunday, AMC is marathoning Season 2 and the already aired episodes of Season 3 on Saturday and Sunday — set your DVR! So, what are you waiting for? 7. The Wire. Set in the world of the underground drug trade in Baltimore, this gritty drama is still being raved about years after it went off the air. With a successful five-season run, adorned with awards and great reviews the whole way through, The Wire marked one of the first of many hits from the house of HBO. There isn’t a revival or a premiere coming up for this show. In fact, it came and went, airing the series finale in 2008. It’s just a powerful, unique show that everyone should watch. And if we’re still talking about it despite it being off the air for almost 6 years, that’s got to mean something, right? 8. Deadwood – Westerns are never out of style. And in the world of cowboys and bar brawls, it doesn’t get any better than Deadwood, South Dakota. This HBO series only got to entertain us for three seasons, but each episode packs enough punch (literally) that you won’t feel the least bit disappointed. Go back to your roots with American’s oldest of successful genres. Deadwood’s an American gem and it’s all accessible through HBOGo for subscribers and iTunes. 9. Homeland. As one of Showtime‘s most successful dramas, Homeland is sure to be present in conversation, awards announcements, and on TV for years to come. Having just competed Season 2 and Season 3 returning in the fall, the plot will thicken just enough for you start counting the days until September. This political thriller just got Claire Danes her second Golden Globe of the season. It’s a product of our times and sometimes it hits too close to home. It’s on iTunes and, of course, the Showtime Anytime app. 10. Game of Thrones. - This HBO series based on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novel series, A Song of Fire and Ice, single-handely put fantasy shows back on the map. Since it’s premiere in 2011, the fictional kingdoms of Westeros and Essos that the show takes place in keep getting more and more intense. Think of it as Lord of the Rings meets The Young and the Restless. Garnering more and more fans every episode, this isn’t a show you want to fall behind in. Who doesn’t like a good (like, really really good) escape into fantasy from time to time? With the aired episodes all available on HBOGo and iTunes, there is plenty of time to catch up before Season 3 continues in March. Now, you have no excuse to not be in the loop! 11. 30 Rock. The comedy series, created by Tina Fey, just came to a heartfelt close after a successful seven season run. The premise of a fictional TV show set inside 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City won six golden globes, and multiple primetime Emmy Awards because of its impeccable cast and writing. Comedy television at it’s finest. Plus thanks to our Eat Like Liz Lemon map, you can indulge in one in all the edible delights of one of TV’s most comedic characters. If you didn’t just watch the series finale, this is a good way to see what all the fuss was about for the last six years. Lucky for you, Seasons 1-6 are available on Netflix. And by the time you’ve completed those, Season 7 might just be available. If not, there’s always iTunes! Season pass, anyone? Which TV marathon are you starting first? What are your suggestions for other TV fans stuck inside for Storm Nemo? Dio Anthony contributed to this article. |

Inside Elvis’ L.A. ‘Graceland’ — And Meet the Billionaire Who Wants to Tear it Down (PHOTOS) Posted: 09 Feb 2013 10:46 AM PST Elvis Presley may have left this building several decades ago, but the Los Angeles version of Graceland will live on — all in the name of history. In December, Hard Rock CafĂ© co-founder Peter Morton dished out $9.8 million for the Trousdale Estates property once owned by Elvis and Priscilla Presley during their first years of marriage in the mid to late '60s. At the time, Morton reportedly had plans to demolish the existing French Regency property — including its four bedrooms, five bathrooms and a four-car carport — to make way for a new house. But according to Curbed L.A., the entrepreneur might have to go back to the drawing board and work with what already exists.
The property is protected under Beverly Hills' newly adopted historic preservation ordinance, thanks to the name Rex Lotery — the mid-century architect who built the home back in 1958.
Lotery is on a list of Master Architects that is used to determine if a home or property should be protected. Presley's former home, which spans for some 1.18 acres, was recently upgraded with fresh paint and flooring, new appliances and a resurfaced pool and spa, Curbed L.A. reported last fall, when the property was put up for sale at $12.995 million. Take a look inside Elvis Presley's L.A. Graceland in the gallery, above. Do you think more homes in Beverly Hills should be preserved or protected? Weigh in below. |
Jude Law: Everyone’s Got A Dark Side (VIDEO) Posted: 09 Feb 2013 10:26 AM PST Jude Law's second project with director Steven Soderbergh didn't come with too many surprises. Like 2011's Contagion, Law's character in Side Effects is a complicated one, with a possible evil side only reserved for the audience. "What was intriguing to me about this piece is that the characters in it are all very whole. They're all flawed, and real," the British actor recently told Celebuzz. "And those to me offer the opportunity both as a viewer and an actor — really curious characters. To me, they're the closest to the kind of people that we all are." Law, 40, plays Dr. Jonathan Banks, a psychiatrist assigned to Rooney Mara's character Emily as she battles depression.
"[Soderbergh] likes the honesty of all of it . . . for me, I've always enjoyed the idea that sort of everyone has secrets, and everyone has dark sides, and characters are only interesting when they're three-dimensional," he said.
When it came to production, Law knew from experience that he would be working at lightning speed. "I knew that Steven filmed real quick and that we would whip through this, so my preparation was really . . . I kind of grafted it, the journey. This level of isolation and obsession, and had it almost color coded in my head so I could hit it at any given time." Side Effects, also starring Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta-Jones, is playing in theaters everywhere. For more of our exclusive chat with Jude Law, check out the video, above. This Week’s Hookups, Breakups And Makeups Posted: 09 Feb 2013 10:33 AM PST For all you teen TV aficionados: Seth Cohen and Blair Waldorf are dating. Amid all the cheating scandals and bitter breakups, former O.C. star Adam Brody and former Gossip Girl actress Leighton Meester found love after meeting on the set of their 2011 film, The Oranges. As for another happy Hollywood ending: Kelly Clarkson opened up about her upcoming wedding with fiance Brandon Blackstock. “I was dating skinny jeans and I needed Wranglers,” she told People. Of course, when it comes to celebrity relationships, things wouldn’t be complete without a little scandal courtesy of Rihanna and Chris Brown, who both made headlines again after the pair showed a united front at Brown’s probation hearing on Wednesday. So who else churned the rumor mill this week? Read through for Celebuzz‘s latest report on Hollywood’s lovelines, along with expert commentary from Todd Creager, marriage and sex therapist and author of The Long Hot Marriage.
Adam Brody & Leighton Meester It’s a made-for-TV moment: the former TV stars sparked a romance after filming their 2011 dramedy, The Oranges. Their relationship is still in the early stages as the pair have been “hanging out for weeks,” according to an Us Weekly report. “They were always close and friendly,” an insider tells the publication. Creager‘s opinion: You have two young, good-looking, up and coming, successful celebrities. They spend so much time together on the set. They have so much in common. Not only can they relate since they are both stars in a movie together, but they have the "process" of getting famous that is also similar. Their compatibility then is already at a high point. It is natural for the pheromones to start to flow. Lastly, they are actors in a movie where they have to be dramatic and emotional. Their emotional juices already have to flow just to be in the movie together. It is not always possible to separate those feelings generated by the characters they are playing to the real life actors. That may make it easier to "fall" for each other. Kelly Clarkson & Brandon Blackstock After announcing their engagement in December, the American Idol winner gushed about her upcoming wedding with her fiance — a music manager and the stepson of country singer Reba McEntire. “Out of nowhere I just said, ‘Thanks for being an awesome guy.’ I’ve never been loved properly by a man, and I was just like, ‘I thank you so much for that,’” she told People about Blackstock, who proposed with a canary diamond ring. Creager’s opinion: Celebs who fall in love with non-famous people definitely tend to have a better chance in long-lasting relationships. That is not to say celebrity relationships could never last. However, when one is not a celebrity, it creates a balanced yin/yang in the relationship. That balance leads to more stability. People who complement each other (as well as compliment each other), often have a better chance of having a long term cohesive relationship. There is less chaos, less "Hollywood drama" and at least more a sense of being grounded in family than when both are famous. Rihanna & Chris Brown Another week, another RiRi and Brown sighting. This time around, the “Diamonds” singer joined her on-again, off-again beau at his probation hearing in L.A. The day before, Brown was accused of failing to complete his 180 days of court-ordered community service. Creager’s opinion: People's actions speak way louder than words. Actions such as Rihanna accompanying Chris Brown to his probation hearing, sitting with his mother, etc. point to one thing: She is back with Chris, or at least making her way back. Here she is, accompanying him to a court trial that has to do with a time that she was violently attacked by him. It sure seems that she has forgiven him and is opening up to Round 2 of their relationship. Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries With her first child on the way, Kardashian wants a “new, full life” away from the NBA player, stated in a new declaration in their divorce proceedings. “The same should hold true for [Kris],” according to a legal statement first obtained by TMZ. Creager’s opinion: As we look from the outside, we may not know the details of Kris’ motivation. However, as a marriage therapist, I always am putting out theories of behavior. All behavior is purposeful and not random, and Kris’ wish to delay the divorce is purposeful as well. My best theory is that he is being passive-aggressive. People are passive-aggressive when they don't deal with their anger maturely and they aren't directly aggressive because then they would have to "see their sins." Passive aggressive behavior can be a way to get anger out towards another person that they feel hurt by without looking like an obvious jerk. However, passive aggressive behavior can be very hurtful. Another theory is that Kris may feel embarrassed or in a "one-down" powerless position so this delay of divorce may be his way of getting back some feeling of power and being in the one-up position. Shenae Grimes & Josh Beech Just like many of their celebrity counterparts (hello, Johnny Depp and Winona Rider), the 90210 star and her fiance celebrated their engagement with permanent ink — matching tattoos of their names, to be exact. Creager’s opinion: That falling in love stage is all about the bonding. During this stage, people emphasize their similarities, all their good qualities and the desire to stay together forever. Just like there is the ritual of exchanging rings, which is a symbol of the goal of everlasting love, these days, many couples treat tattoos in the same way. Mutual tattoos have become another ritual that symbolizes the couples quest for everlasting love. That romantic falling in love stage is all about the bond. The couple is not thinking about what would happen if they ever broke up. In the year 2013, it would not be unusual for couples who are in this "honeymoon" stage of a relationship, to parlay their intense hormonal/emotional/physical attraction to each other into a tattoo that expressed their deeply felt commitment to each other. Tell us: Which celebrity couple had you talking this week? And which ones do you think will make it in the long run? Sound off in the comments. |

Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and her growing baby bump took off for Brazil earlier this week, adding more miles to their frequent flyer plans. On Saturday, the expectant couple played tourists and paid a visit to the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro. The reality TV star later shared a personal snapshot of her outfit, courtesy of Juan Carlos Obando. She finished off her look with a pair of neon yellow shoes from Christian Loutboutin.
In other Kardashian news, the next episode of E!'s Kourtney and Kim Take Miami looks to be a heated one, according to a preview released on Thursday. Check out the gallery, above, for photos of Kimye in Brazil. |
Why You Should Watch ‘House of Cards’ This Weekend Posted: 09 Feb 2013 12:02 PM PST After a first foray into original programming, the folks at Netflix swung for the fence with House of Cards. And, boy, did they hit it out of the park. The political thriller, a remake of a BBC series based on Michael Dobbs' novel, follows a cunning South Carolina Congressman as he schemes his way through Washington, D.C. After being snubbed the once-promised position of Secretary of State, Francis “Frank” Underwood (Kevin Spacey) — with a helping hand from his equally hard-hearted wife Claire (Robin Wright) and a hungry rookie reporter, Zoe (Kate Mara) — plots a masterfully-orchestrated plan to topple the newly-elected president. Since last Friday, the series’ entire 13-episode first season has been available to Netflix’s 33 million streaming subscribers worldwide. So if the dark, expertly-directed drama is right at your fingertips, what are you waiting for? Celebuzz has five reasons to tune into Netflix’s already acclaimed House of Cards. 1. Binging can be a good thing. While critics are wary of House of Cards‘ all-at-once release, binge-watching has simply become a part of programming culture. Whether coming late to the party on a still-airing series or running through a retired show, many viewers have stopped slowly savoring shows, instead indulging in multiple episodes — or, dare we say, an entire season — in a single sitting. While it may not leave you time to mull over that cliffhanger, a television bender comes with the instant gratification of a full story in one fell swoop. So, sit back, relax, and splurge on the show. 2. Spacey is spot-on. The actor is one of the main reasons House of Cards can stand among the most elite TV series. He’s a beloved character actor from acclaimed films such as American Beauty, Seven and The Usual Suspects. Spacey’s just-sinister-enough portrayal of the shrewd, ruthless Majority Whip of the House of Representatives — a Democrat with a Southern snarl — is a large part of what has House of Cards watchers coming back for more. 3. For Fincher’s sake. House of Cards is from David Fincher, the brain behind The Social Network, Fight Club, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Not only did he take the directing reigns for the new drama series, but Fincher even threw his Academy Award-winning weight behind the show by executive producing. And it all pays off — the show is shot and directed as beautifully as his big-screen successes. 4. Rooney Mara’s big sister receives raves. After stealing the spotlight on FX’s American Horror Story, Kate Mara has set tongues wagging as journalist Zoe Barnes, an amateur-but-ballsy reporter at the fictional Washington Herald who will stop at no end to land a scoop. And now that she is earning praise for the part, the actress has her little sister, Rooney Mara, to thank. “I read the script…and fell in love with the role,” she told Elle magazine. So she phoned her sister, who was shooting The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo with House of Cards’ director Fincher at the time. “[I] told her how amazing David's new project was and that I really wanted the part. Two months later, David asked me to play the role,” the actress remembered. 5. The real Washington. Instead of romanticizing inside the powerful city — a la West Wing — House of Cards pulls back the curtain on the Capital City. Sure, some of the manipulations and power plays on The Hill may be amplified up in the name of art, but at least it digs into the too-often-shrouded wheeling and dealing of Washington. Will you be watching House of Cards? Tell us why, or why not, in the comments. |
‘Melissa & Joey’ Star Taylor Spreitler: ‘I Could Never Be A Model’ (VIDEO) Posted: 09 Feb 2013 08:33 AM PST Taylor Spreitler loves fashion — but don't expect to see her on a runway anytime soon. On Friday, the 19-year-old was spotted donning a Monika Chiang outfit — fitting, as she was a spectator at the designer's Fall 2013 show. "I love that she's edgy but you can wear it everyday and you don't feel like you're dressed crazy, so I like it. And it's very comfortable," Spreitler revealed at the Celebuzz #SocialChats event, held at the Empire Hotel to celebrate New York Fashion Week. "You always see the clothes but you never really know who's behind it, so it's very nice meeting everyone and seeing what goes on backstage, which is crazy . . . I could never be a model during fashion week." Fashion Week aside, the Melissa & Joey star is very much a fashionista at heart. "I really like floral jeans, any kind of printed jeans. I wear them all the time. I'm excited they're finally back in for spring," she said. Melissa & Joey will kick off its third season later this spring. While he’s taking a break from movies, the Django Unchained star hasn’t given-up on his other favorite past-time: romancing stunning women. According to E! News, DiCaprio and Dreshaj were spotted kissing and getting intimate on a hotel balcony in Miami last weekend. The rumored new couple weren’t alone: DiCaprio’s famous party pals, Jonah Hill and Bradley Cooper, were also spotted in the Sunshine State. Dreshaj, 26, definitely fits the bad boy's identikit for the perfect woman — she is a model, tall, blonde and very leggy. She also bears a resemblance to DiCaprio’s famous ex-girlfriends, which include supermodels Bar Rafaeli, Gisele Bundchen and Erin Heatherton. But just who is Aferdita Dreshaj? Here are seven facts: 1. Born on July 19, 1986 in Montenegro, Aferdita Dreshaj is of Albanian descent. Her birth sign is Cancer (DiCaprio's sign is a matching Scorpio). 2. She moved to the US when she was 12 and started modeling at 17, after a photographer discovered her. 3. Dreshaj is best known back home as a beauty queen — she was crowned Miss Universe Kosovo in 2011. 4. The blonde beauty can sing too. In fact, she is a well-known singer in Albanian speaking countries, having debuted with her first single “NĂ«se Je BurrĂ«” in 2009. 5. “Aferdita” means, "near to the day" and the Albanian form of Aphrodite — the Greek goddess of love. 6. At 6 feet tall she is the same height as her movie star beau DiCaprio. 7. She’s a reality star too. Aferdita competed on the Albanian version of Dancing With The Stars. On her Twitter account she previously stated, "This and Miss Universe best experiences ever!" What do you think of Leonardo DiCaprio’s rumored new girlfriend? Top 10 Celebrity Quotes Of The Week (PHOTOS) Posted: 09 Feb 2013 12:02 PM PST "Sometimes in life, you think you found the one. But then one day you find out that she is just some b****.” Which celebrity ladies man spoke ill of his famous ex? Was it Chris Brown, Channing Tatum or Justin Timberlake? Find out in Celebuzz's top quotes of the week. Who was the Hollywood hottie that tarnished the name of a former flame?
It was Justin Timberlake! At a Feb. 2 DirecTV Super Bowl-eve concert, the "Suit and Tie" singer segued into "Cry Me a River" with this perfunctory prelude, allegedly alluding to his past relationship with Britney Spears. The renowned oldie is a notoriously Britney-inspired ballad, with a music video to match (a Britney-look-a-like was featured in the video), that was released after the couple's unsavory split back in 2002. Britney and JT were Hollywood's pop-star power couple for three years, a classic boy-meets-girl story from the 90's boyband era, until, as rumor has it, Brit Brit cheated on her then young love with choreographer Wade Robson. Despite the somewhat obvious reference, Justin denied calling Britney a b**** and immediately took to Twitter to clear up the issue. “Ok. I see you. Wouldn’t disrespect ANYONE personally. Ever. #Relax #ItsBritneyBitch I do love that saying though *with accent* #Respect,” he tweeted Do you think JT was calling Britney the "B" word, or was it all big misunderstanding? Sound off in the comments below. Find out what else the stars had to say this week in Celebuzz's Top 10 Quotes of the Week.

What Happened To The ‘Baywatch’ Babes? Posted: 09 Feb 2013 12:02 PM PST Those skimpy red swimsuits will forever be remembered, but what about the stunning stars that wore them? Nicole Eggert made headlines Thursday as she was seen prepping to star on CBS’ new celebrity competition series, Splash. The 41-year-old flaunted a much fuller figure compared to her Baywatch days, making her a prime candidate for the show where she will (hopefully) snap back into shape by learning the art of diving. But seeing Eggert got us all nostalgic and thinking: what happened to the rest of the Baywatch babes?
Carmen Electra made headlines recently when she announced that she’d be stepping away from acting to focus on her vocals. In November, Electra released her song “I Like It Loud,” and even filmed a music video to boot. “I love acting — but deep down inside this is what I have wanted to do for so long," the 40-year-old told Celebuzz. "I have got to the point in my life where I have felt like I have to go for it. Now is the time." Meanwhile, Pamela Anderson took her talent to the dance floor, appearing in Dancing With the Stars: All Stars last fall. Unfortunately, the blonde bombshell didn’t last too long and was the first contender to be eliminated from the season. Launch the gallery above to see the before and after shots of the beloved Baywatch babes. |

Catherine Zeta-Jones: ‘A Good Script Is Like Finding Gold’ (VIDEO) Posted: 08 Feb 2013 06:25 PM PST Since making her breakthrough in 1998 in The Mask of Zorro, Catherine Zeta-Jones has enjoyed a remarkable variety of acting opportunities: cat burglar, pregnant drug lord, a vaudevillian inmate, a hard-edged chef, and in her new film, Side Effects, a mysterious psychiatrist. But after working with director Steven Soderbergh for the third time, Zeta-Jones says she immediately recognizes the difference between a project that will offer her real challenges and one that challenges her only to find something – anything – to do with a lackluster role. "Moviemaking has got to be on the page," Zeta-Jones tells Celebuzz. "When it jumps out at you on the page, it's going to jump out at you on the screen. And to find a good script is like finding gold."
"It's when you have the script that's not so good, an you're going, 'okay, what I going to do to make this anything kind of interesting?'" she continues. "And the work I've done with Steven has always been on the page." In Side Effects, Zeta-Jones plays a doctor who offers a second opinion to a psychiatrist (played by Jude Law) trying to find the right prescription for a patient's depression. What soon unfolds is a complex web of murder and deception where nothing is as it initially seemed. Zeta-Jones credits Soderbergh for offering her opportunities that she might not otherwise enjoy – opportunities which buoy her continuing enthusiasm for acting. "The characters he seems to cast me in are certainly not one-dimensional," she says. "And as an actor, to be able to read a script and find those nuances and surprise an audience with the twists and turns of the character is terrific." What do you think of Catherine Zeta-Jones as an actress? Watch Celebuzz' exclusive video interview with her above, and then let us know in the comments section below. |
