‘Safe Haven’: How Charmed Are Critics By The New Nicholas Sparks Romance? Posted: 15 Feb 2013 12:53 PM PST It’s that time of year again, movie buffs! Yep, that’s right. Another Valentine’s Day, another overtly romantic movie with a poster of the two beautiful lead actors in an embrace. This year’s selection is an adaptation of a novel from the man who seems to have nothing but romantic bones in his body, Nicholas Sparks. Seriously, Sparks is like the romantic gift that keeps on giving. The latest novel-turned-sappy-movie is Safe Haven, starring Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough. The pair of leads easily fit into the roster of Sparks-leads alumni including Amanda Seyfried, Mandy Moore, Channing Tatum, Rachel McAdams, Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron, to name a few, but does the newest edition to the Nicholas Sparks movie collection have as much (pun intended) heart as the movies that came before it? Critics weighed in, and according to them, the film is generally lackluster. But, in the end, it all depends on what the audience thinks. Meaning, don’t let the critics discourage you too much! Having said that, here’s a look at exactly what they had to say about the film: Stephen Farber, The Hollywood Reporter “A thriller element that has not been present in earlier Sparks movies is designed to draw reluctant male viewers to see the picture, but they won’t respond with the same enthusiasm as his core audience of woozy romantics…” Mary Pols, TIME “What's the point then, if she's not a girl we're desperately worried about? This could be a problem with Hough's performance—she's all sunshine but no heat—but in general, Sparks seems to taking it easier on his audiences these days. He's making his escapism more escapist…” Leah Rozen, Yahoo Movies “There’s nada in “Safe Haven” that will surprise anyone who has ever watched a few Lifetime movies, which it strongly resembles, both in the tedious level of its acting and its dialogue…” Betsey Sharkey, LA Times “Starring Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel, this sloppy sentimental journey is long on beauty shots, short on depth and seriously intent on tugging your heartstrings. Indeed, it demands you reach for those tissues…” Peter Travers, Rolling Stone “…Hough, an inexhaustibly perky actress, manages to keep smiling. Worse then that, Katie hides out in an impossibly picturesque fishing village in North Carolina, where she right away meets Alex (Josh Duhamel), a widower with two kids and a gym-toned body no one else in town possesses…” Harsh, huh? Again, just take the reviews with a grain of salt. That said, did you see the latest romantic mush-fest that is Safe Haven? If so, do you agree with the critics? We at Celebuzz want to know (so we can decide whether or not to see it, too). |

Listen: Usher Wants To ‘Go Missin’ With You Posted: 15 Feb 2013 11:12 AM PST Forget chocolate and flowers — Usher gifted his fans a different kind of Valentine’s Day treat: a new song. On the heels of Justin Timberlake dropping his “Suit & Tie” music video, the Grammy-winning R&B artist also capitalized on the Hallmark holiday by dropping his brand-new collaboration with DJ-producer Diplo. “You loved what I gave you last Valentine’s #Climax,” Usher wrote on Twitter on Thursday. “So here is ‘Special delivery from the cloud’ Happy Valentine’s Day!” The R&B-meets-electronica track marks the first time the duo has teamed up since the Grammy Award-winning “Climax,” which was released last February. Laying his signature, sultry falsetto over Diplo’s bass-heavy beat, Usher croons about enticing a woman to come home with him. “Baby aint nobody gotta know/ Go missin',” he sings (see full lyrics at DirectLyrics). “I'mma take a key for sure turn her up/ You can follow me right out that back door.” Since dropping his seventh studio album, Looking 4 Myself, last June, Usher has not talked about a hitting the record studio for a new release. But after “Go Missin’” popped up on Soundcloud, Diplo suggested it may be a small slice of a “much” bigger pie. “Big up everyone who digs the new Whether or not he has another album in the works, Usher has plenty on his plate. Along with fellow newbie Shakira, the “Scream” singer joins veterans Blake Shelton and Adam Levine the coaching panel for the fourth season of The Voice, taking Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green‘s seats when the singing competition show returns on March 25. “The one thing that I hope is to come into this show and be able to score an incredible entertainer that people will talk about for years and years and track it back,” Usher told CNN of his new gig. “I am kind of a living example of that. I started on Star Search, and my career kind of launched from there.” Do you like Usher’s new track? Tells us why or why not in the comments below. |

Watch: Everybody Is Doing The ‘Harlem Shake’ — Including Team Celebuzz Posted: 15 Feb 2013 12:24 PM PST “Gangnam Style” is so 2012. Right now it’s all about the Harlem Shake. Though originally the name of a 1980s dance that turned mainstream, G. Dep’s “Let’s Get It” music video, the Harlem Shake has gone on to be referenced in mumerous songs over the years, including a track by Brooklyn-based producer Baauer. Now that song has become the backdrop music in Harlem Shake meme, the latest online dance craze to take the Internet by storm. And since the release of a video by the YouTube comedy video blogger Filthy Frank, the revived ‘shake’ has spawned tens of millions of viral videos. Want to hop on the bandwagon? Here’s how you get down with the Harlem Shake. Step 1: Hit play on Baauer’s “Harlem Shake.” Step 2: At the beginning, only one person (often masked) starts dancing. All others in the room or area appear oblivious, going about their ordinary tasks. Step 3: When the beat drops, the clip cuts to everyone dancing crazy, sometimes in costume and/or with props. Not only is it spreading like wildfire on the web — with videos featuring everyone from college swimmers, to military men, to subway riders, to grandmas — but the Harlem Shake is even sweeping shows across the nation, from CBS’ Anderson Live to NBC’s TODAY show. Watch television teams — and one radio squad — get in on the latest dance craze, below. 1. TODAY 2. Late Night with Jimmy Fallon 3. On Air with Ryan Seacrest 4. SportsCentre 5. Anderson Live |
Posted: 15 Feb 2013 12:48 PM PST Love, set, match! LMFAO frontman Redfoo just gifted his girlfriend — No. 1 seeded tennis star Victoria Azarenka — with a super-romantic piece of bling. "He bought her a Cartier 'Love' bracelet," a source told Celebuzz. "He also bought her a beautiful necklace.” Any fashionista knows that the iconic gold “Love” bauble is a true symbol of the sentiment, given that it requires a special lock and key to take it on and off.
The Cartier piece even complements Redfoo’s own jewelry: "He got a bracelet in rose gold and wears it all the time on his left wrist,” said the source. And it appears the couple's affinity for “Love” bracelets is a family affair. Added the insider: "His mom also has one, and they all took a picture with them on.” Thirty-six-year-old Redfoo (whose real name Stefan Kendal Gordy) has been spotted cheering on 23-year-old Azarenka at tournaments around the world, and he’s certainly a good-luck charm: she took home the Wimbledon and Australian Open titles in 2012. What piece of jewelry would make you happy? Let us know what bling is best, in the comments section.

How Mother Monster’s Cancelled Tour Is Costing Millions Posted: 15 Feb 2013 12:51 PM PST As Little Monsters mourn the cancellation of Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Ball, Live Nation Global Touring is scrambling to shut down one of the most successful pop tours in history. After first postponing four dates due to a case of synovitis, which is severe inflammation of the joints, the global BTWB was forced to call off all remaining concerts because of Lady Gaga’s injury — a labral tear in her right hip that requires surgery and strict downtime to recover. But shuttering the tour is no small feat for the touring professionals behind BTWB, which had grossed $168.2 million through Jan. 17. With 22 shows cancelled from the North American leg, which was to conclude the tour and was almost completely sold out, roughly 200,000 tickets are set to be refunded, which total to a loss of $25 million in gross sales, according to Billboard. Beyond compensating thwarted concertgoers, Live Nation must cover many bases in the cancellation of one of 2012′s highest grossing tours: venues are notified, press releases put out, and all of production is shut down, sending more than 100 strong of cast and crew and all staging equipment packing back to their proper homes. For the venues that were to host Mother Monster, the losses run deep — on top of recompensed ticket sales, they will miss out on potential moneymaking from concessions, merchandise and parking. Even Gaga herself suffers a financial setback from the scrapping of BTWB. As she undergoes surgery and rests during recovery, she will kiss goodbye the paychecks she would’ve pocketed per concert, which ran in the seven-figure range. In the meantime, Little Monsters are now left waiting with bated breath for their next dose of Gaga, which may well be ARTPOP, her much-anticipated upcoming fourth studio album. The artist plans to release it as an app, as well as on CD and in digital form. |
‘She’s My Homey’: Beyonce’s Many Maternal Moments With Blue Ivy Posted: 15 Feb 2013 12:51 PM PST Proud mom Beyonce famously gushed that her first child, Blue Ivy Carter, was her “homey” in a recent interview with Vogue magazine — and we can see why. Since the famous tot’s birth in January 2012, the “Crazy in Love” crooner has been inseparable from her daughter — taking her everywhere from sightseeing the Big Apple to yachting excusions in France. In her upcoming HBO documentary, Life Is But a Dream, the 31-year-old opens up about motherhood after suffering a tragic miscarriage before welcoming baby Blue.
“My life is a journey,” she said. “I had to go through my miscarriage, I believe I had to go through owning my company and managing myself…ultimately your independence comes from knowing who you are and you being happy with yourself.” “This baby has made me love [my husband] more than I ever thought I could love another human being,” she added of her longtime love, rapper Jay-Z. Chris Brown To Adele: Thanks For ‘Speaking The Truth’ Posted: 15 Feb 2013 11:06 AM PST Chris Brown has notoriously instigated some major Twitter feuds throughout the years, but this time around, he’s using his 140 characters to express a little gratitude. Taking to her Twitter account, Adele made it clear on Wednesday that she had no drama with Brown after a Grammy photo of the singers surfaced in which she looked like she might be reprimanding the controversial R&B singer.
The infamous pic caused a stir after several media outlets speculated that the British songstress scolded Breezy for failing to join the crowd’s standing ovation as rival Frank Ocean took home the award for Best Urban Contemporary Album (Brown was also nominated in the category). Brown’s snub toward Ocean comes weeks after the two embroiled in a heated altercation over a parking spot in Los Angeles.
And it looks like his message scored high from on-again girlfriend Rihanna. RiRi posted a pic of a pot-leaf-shaped bundle of buds sprouting from a blunt.
Launch the gallery to check out some of Chris’ most notorious feuds. Then tell us: did you think Adele and Chris were really beefing? |

Who Did Jessica Alba Make Out With For ‘Escape From Planet Earth’? Posted: 15 Feb 2013 12:07 AM PST In Escape From Planet Earth, Rob Corddry (Warm Bodies) plays Gary Supernova, an alien scientist who clashes with Lena Thackleman (Jessica Alba) when his brother Scorch (Brendan Fraser) is apprehended by humans while on a voyage to Earth. Unexpectedly, Alba and Corddry were paired with one another when doing press for the film, placing two fierce enemies in close proximity with one another. When asked what it took to get them in the same room, the actors explained they were both combative and conciliatory before reconciling their differences. "We boxed," Alba tells Celebuzz. "And then we made out." Corddry, laughing, adds, "So both things. Two extremes." All kidding aside, the actors say that they struggled a little bit when time came to record dialogue for their characters, precisely because they didn't have the chance to interact with one another. "I just wanted to have someone to talk to, like play off of," Alba reveals. Corddry explains that the filmmakers do give the actors images of their characters, but he's not confident that helped him fully understand the role. "They do give you a sketch," he says. "And I sat it there. And I don't know if it helped me at all." But Alba, who never played a villain before taking her role in the film, praised the experience. "It was so fun," she says. "I thought it was quite liberating to be crazy." Escape From Planet Earth opens in theaters nationwide February 15. Watch Celebuzz' exclusive video interview with Alba and Corddry, and then let us know in the comments section below – do you think Alba makes a good villain? |
Watch: 57 Pounds Didn’t Stop Beyonce’s Return To Center Stage Posted: 15 Feb 2013 12:52 PM PST Nothing will stand between Beyoncé and the stage — not even her 1-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy. After welcoming her first child with hip-hop mogul hubby Jay-Z in January 2012, Queen B put her post-baby body on display as she performed a three-night stint in May in Atlantic City. “I did a show three months after I gave birth, which was really crazy,” Beyoncé tells Oprah Winfrey in their much-anticipated sitdown, which will air Saturday on OWN. “I had clearly never given birth and I didn't know I would gain…57 pounds.” But the pregnancy weight couldn’t keep the multi-platinum Grammy-winning superstar from her passion. “I really wanted to know, ya know? I feel so fortunate to do my job,” she gushed. “I love my job. I love singing. I love the way it feels.” In the Oprah’s Next Chapter episode, Beyoncé, 31, also dishes on daughter Blue Ivy, her heartbreaking miscarriage, the making of her HBO documentary Life Is But a Dream — which has received mixed reviews from critics — professionally parting ways with her father Matthew Knowles, and her four-year marriage to Jay-Z. "I would not be the woman I am if I did not go home to that man,” Bey tells Winfrey, adding that Hova has helped her “on so many levels” during their relationship. “It just gives me such a foundation." "We were friends first, for a year and a half before we went on any date — on the phone for a year and a half,” she recalls. “And that foundation is so important in a relationship. Just to have someone that you just like is so important and someone that is honest.” To catch the full Beyoncé’s interview, tune in to Oprah’s Next Chapter this Saturday, Feb. 16, at 8 PM on OWN. |
Brooklyn Decker Recalls First Time She Kissed Husband Andy Roddick Posted: 15 Feb 2013 12:07 AM PST Supermodel Brooklyn Decker once admitted it took five months for her now-husband, former tennis pro Andy Roddick, to officially woo her. So, what was it like when the two finally shared their first kiss? “It was nice and innocent,” she told Celebuzz exclusively on Thursday, without giving too much away. “He’d kill me if I talked about it.” The answer was revealed while Decker, age, was promoting Gillette’s Kiss + Tell campaign, in which the shaving company traveled the country to find out whether women liked their men clean or shaven.
“They found out that 85 percent of women actually prefer a clean shave,” Decker said.
“I was surprised about the 85 percent, because I actually thought that women really like the look of facial hair,” she continued. “I love the look of stubble or scruff. But again, it scratches me. It gives me a.) the beard burn and b.) little pimples [because of] the hair oils … It gets gross. Let’s be honest. [Laughs]” As part of the campaign, Decker made a stop in New York on Thursday to help Gillette break two world records: one, for the largest shaving lesson; and two, for the most amount of kisses in one minute. Watch the couples try to break the kissing records, she said, was quite the experience. “It [happens] so fast that they sort of look like, for lack of a better words, dry-humping each other because they’re just banging their faces against one another,” she said. “It’s quite entertaining to watch.” The only downside to the event is that it kept Decker from celebrating Valentine’s Day with Roddick, who retired from professional tennis last year. (It’s nice and relaxed now, which is really fun,” she said of her marriage since. “Andy’s having a very good time and he’s happy.) But Decker says all is well, as she’s never been a big fan of the romantic holiday to begin with. “Here’s the thing: I think it should be acknowledged. If you’re in an office, like, every single coworker is probably getting flowers, or a card or something,” she said. “I think it should be acknowledged. But I think something like a simple note is sufficient. I think if you need a day to celebrate love, then you’re probably not working hard enough the rest of the year. [Laughs] “I’ve never been a big celebrator of it,” she added. “I’m usually with my girlfriends. I’ve actually never really celebrated it before. So it’s never been an important holiday for me.” As for whether she personally prefers Roddick clean-shaven or scruffy, Decker admits she likes a little hair. “I like it when he has a little bit of scruff, especially when we’re on opposite sides of the country because I can look at it and it looks cute, but we don’t have to kiss. Which is nice! [Laughs]” She said. “But every other week or so, he switches it up, which is like most guys, I think.” “He actually prefers no facial hair.” |
