7 Scariest Made-Up Movie Drugs Posted: 08 Feb 2013 11:27 AM PST Steven Soderbergh reteamed with his Contagion crew for the thriller Side Effects, which follows a doctor whose prescription of anti-anxiety medication proves to have tragic consequences. A serious dramatic thriller that launches a debate about the ubiquitousness and so-called normalcy of incorporating prescription drugs into our everyday lives, Side Effects is the latest, but certainly not the only film featuring a drug that has some, well, alarming side effects. Consequently, Celebuzz assembled a list of our favorite movie medications — or at the very least, the ones that left a serious impressionlong after the film was finished.
Click here to launch Celebuzz gallery of the 7 Scariest Made-Up Movie Drugs Admittedly, a handful of these serve as plot devices, while others offered filmmakers an opportunity to fill their projects with cool visual flourishes or even approximate a trip-out on the silver screen. But regardless of their cinematic purpose, these are smart, pseudo-insane psychogenics — intriguing enough, in fact, that we wouldn't mind sampling one or two were it not for all those potentially fatal side effects. Which movie drug is the one you want to try the most? Or conversely, which is the one you definitely don’t want to dabble in? Let us know in the comments section below. |
Watch: Melissa McCarthy in ‘Gilmore Girls’ Before She Was Famous Posted: 08 Feb 2013 11:27 AM PST And with the refreshing rise of female comedic actresses, from out the shadows emerges Melissa McCarthy. The 42-year-old funny girl isn't new to acting. In fact, she's been cracking people up for years. Her numerous supporting parts in Charlies Angels, Samantha Who? and Life as We Know It have were well-received, while her sitcom Mike and Molly, in which she embraces her plus-sized figure and finds love in an Overeaters Anonymous group, garnered her an Emmy. But major fame didn't come until recently, when she received Oscar-caliber recognition with an award nomination for her riotous role as Megan, the abrasive, butch sister-in-law-to-be, in Bridesmaids.
And it's only been uphill from there. Now, having mastered the art of the outrageous sidekick and perfected the parameters of comedic relief, Melissa gets a chance to step off the sidelines and shine on her own with a leading role in the new movie Identity Thief. In the funny film out Friday, McCarthy plays Diana, the unsuspecting scam artist who is living large after robbing Sandy Bigelow Patterson (Jason Bateman), a quintessential nice guy with a gender-neutral name, of his identity. She is now the irritating moving target in Sandy's life and he'll stop at nothing to reclaim his self. McCarthy may just be getting her moment now, but Celebuzz remembers this star from her Gilmore Girls days. As Sookie St James, McCarthy was a necessary fixture in the quick-witted, culturally positioned mother-daughter series. The scatterbrain top chef and lovable friend to Lorelai Gilmore, she scored lots of laughs with her klutzy demeanor, ridiculous ramblings and sheer quirkiness. She was an absolutely affable addition to the sometimes-serious cast. Check out this scene for a well-representing glimpse of Melissa's early talents.

‘Identity Thief’: How do Critics Like Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy as a Comedic Couple? Posted: 08 Feb 2013 11:39 AM PST After reading reviews for this weekend's new comedy, Identity Thief, it's like the critics challenged each other to a contest of who can come up with the most creative way to dislike the movie. Bridesmaids' breakout star, Melissa McCarthy, joins Jason Bateman in director Seth Gordon's follow-up to Horrible Bosses. In Thief, McCarthy plays a brash woman responsible for stealing the identity of Bateman's character, Sandy. The two are forced to team-up for the most awkward road trip ever, full of endless jokes aimed at Sandy's less-than-masculine name. So is Identity Thief worthy of all this anti-praise? Read on to find out…
Joe Morgenstern, The Wall Street Journal "Melissa McCarthy stole big chunks of a great show in the 2011 Bridesmaids… On the strength of that sensational comic turn, she clearly deserved her own starring vehicle. But no one —neither the star nor her audience — deserves Identity Thief, the comedy equivalent of mud-wrestling without the mud." Alonso Duralde, TheWrap "[Identity Thief] has the kind of cast that makes audiences ask, 'How bad could it be?' before proceeding to answer that very question. Bateman, for his part, tries to inject whatever life he can into the straight-man half of this comedic duo, but it's yet another film where his gifts are squandered." Peter Debruge, Variety "With Identity Thief, Melissa McCarthy proves she’s got what it takes to carry a feature, however meager the underlying material." Tasha Robinson, The A.V. Club "Like Horrible Bosses, the previous feature from director Seth Gordon, Identity Thief is essentially a sloppy '80s character comedy with a sleeker 2013 editing and scripting sensibility. But for all the streamlining, Identity Thief rarely hits breakneck speed, thanks to its long, sometimes improvised scenes of mayhem. And the frame isn't the only thing pared down to utilitarian basics: The tacked-on, Elmore Leonard-esque villains get short shrift too." Roger Moore, Movie Nation “[The filmmakers] aimed for Midnight Run, settled for attempting Due Date, and wound up with Guilt Trip.” Still on the fence about seeing Identity Thief? Watch the trailer, then let us know what you thought of the film in the comments section below. |
Aww! Look at Gisele’s Adorable Little Girl Posted: 08 Feb 2013 11:09 AM PST Like mother, like daughter. Gisele Bundchen shared a new snapshot of her little bundle of joy Vivian Lake on Friday, revealing her delicate features for the world to see. And she is definitely taking after her momma with those sparkly bright eyes and full lips. Fresh-faced, Bundchen showed her maternal side as she cradled her daughter who was donning a feminine white frock — clearly accumulating a fashionable wardrobe already, "Love is everything! Happy Friday, much love to all," the Brazilian supermodel gushed on Facebook, below the photo.
She and her handsome NFL quarterback husband Tom Brady welcomed their second child in Dec. 2012, announcing the news on Facebook. Yet, she had never even confirmed her pregnancy until that point. "We feel so lucky to have been able to experience the miracle of birth once again and are forever grateful for the opportunity to be the parents of another little angel," the 32-year-old said, adding a photo of the baby's hand. "She is healthy and full of life. Thank you all for your support and well wishes. We wish you and your families many blessings." |

Dolce & Gabbana Want to Make Your Baby Smell Sweeter Posted: 08 Feb 2013 11:29 AM PST Every mother knows oh-so-well the sweet smell of a newborn. So this should be music to their ears: that whiff is now wrapped up in a bottle. Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana has introduced an alcohol-free fragrance, designed specially for babies. But the spray is not meant to mask the natural aroma of a bambino, but instead simply enhance it. "We all know that children smell beautiful, and there's no need to cover up their natural scent," lifestyle editor Valentina Zannoni wrote on Swide, the luxury label's digital magazine. "In fact, the Dolce & Gabbana Baby Fragrance has been designed to accentuate that natural baby smell." The fresh-smelling fragrance, which features notes of citrus, honey and melon, was inspired by "the softness of baby skin, the freshness of baby breath, a mother's sweet hug, [and] the first smile," according Stefano Gabbana, one half the brand’s managing duo. Believe it or not, D&G is not the first high-end label to hop on the baby perfume bandwagon: Burberry and Bulgari already offer scents for little ones. But is an eau de toilette for the crawling bunch just all too bizarre? In a world where mothers pamper their tots — not to mention, slather them with synthetically-scented Baby powder and lotion — perhaps a little spritz from a light-and-airy atomizer is not so far fetched. Now only time will tell if moms snap up the $45-a-pop 50-ml bottle. Do you think a eau de enfants is crossing the line? Tell us what celebrity mothers you think may try it out on their little ones. |

Nevermind Nemo! Celebs Flock to Fashion Week Posted: 08 Feb 2013 11:16 AM PST Weather, schmeather. Despite the sleet, snow, and winds, fashion’s A-listers continue to flock to Lincoln Center, the hub of New York Fashion Week. Neither icy conditions nor warnings of the blizzard to come could stop fashion’s elite from strapping on their stilettos and filling the front rows for the first round of Fall 2013 runway shows. And the winds and frigid temperatures haven’t stopped the style set from party-hopping either. Though the weather on the West Coast is behaving much better, quite a few famous faces have been spotted among the bundled up front-row fixtures and posh party-goers. Just before the weather took the turn for the worst, the fashion-filled week kicked off with a few start-studded events, including the Red Dress Collection Fashion Show, the uber-glam amfAR gala, and the carnival thrown in honor of Prabal Gurung’s new Target collection.
Some of the week’s first big runway shows, including BCBG, Edun, Kenneth Cole and more, brought some major star-power, with Christina Ricci, Maggie Grace, Heidi Klum, Ashlee Simpson, Drew Barrymore and even Cuba Gooding Jr. lining the runways in fashion-forward looks.
Despite news of Nemo’s impending doom, Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore braved the cold for Teen Vogue‘s anniversary party, while Vanessa Hudgens and Olivia Palermo were also spotted hitting up the posh party circuit at different events. Weekend Movie Preview — Five Flicks in Five Clicks Posted: 07 Feb 2013 07:40 PM PST Zombie love ruled at the box-office last week, but can the heartfelt undead defend themselves against fighter jets, poison pills and identity theft? Taking in nearly $21 million, Warm Bodies will have to hold up against the Jason Bateman-Melissa McCarthy comedy Identity Thief, the pharmacological thriller Side Effects from director Steven Soderbergh and the IMAX 3D re-release of Top Gun. With the last few months being fairly top-heavy will horror/thriller releases, we're willing to bet that Identity Thief will steal itself the top slot with a much needed dose of comedy. Despite being the critical darling of the group, however, it's difficult to say whether Side Effects will find its audience.

Cissy to Clive: It’s Not Right, and It’s Not Okay Posted: 08 Feb 2013 01:16 PM PST Divided they stand. As the one-year-anniversary of Whitney Houston‘s death on February 11 approaches, her family is in turmoil over whether to attend Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party. But her mother, Cissy, knows where she stands. “I got an invitation to the party, which is the most obscene thing,” she told Access Hollywood Thursday. “I don’t know why they would want me to come to the party in which she died, you know? Unheard of.”
Houston passed away at the age of 48, just before she was scheduled to attend Clive Davis‘ annual pre-Grammy party, so it’s understandable why his invitation would upset her mother. But Cissy admits that Davis possibly sent the invite as a tribute to her late daughter. “I guess maybe he just sent me a copy for remembrance sake,” said the 79-year-old, who said she won’t be attending the awards ceremony either. Meanwhile, other members of Houston’s family feel differently: Houston’s brother Gary Houston and his wife Pat, plan to attend the soiree. The couple told Entertainment Tonight that they feel it’s important to support Davis, who discovered Houston at the young age of 20 and who had such a huge role in her illustrious career. “[Clive] was such an important part of Whitney’s life. I mean, that was her industry father and he really, really was,” Pat said. ”My husband and I will definitely be there this weekend to support Clive. Absolutely.” Clive’s invite isn’t the only struggle in Cissy’s recent history: She has also suffered drama with Houston’s daughter, Bobby Kristina Brown, who attacked her grandmother for writing a revealing book about Whitney. Kristina even took to twitter last week and slammed Cissy, tweeting: "I find it 2b disrespect2mymother & me being her daughter won't tolerate it." Cissy, however, chalked the comment up to sadness. "She's grieving. [She's] really grieving," she told Access Hollywood. "Bobbi Kris knows — she better know — that I love her. Anything I can do for her, I'll be there. I wouldn't say anything [bad] about my daughter. That's MY daughter, whom I loved with all my heart.” Do you think it was appropriate for Davis to invite Houston’s family to his Grammy party? Let us know how you feel in the comments section. |
Watch: How Lil Wayne Became a Big on Power in Hollywood Posted: 08 Feb 2013 10:39 AM PST As hip-hop’s current reigning king, Lil Wayne — whose earnings totaled around $27 million as of May 2012 — makes Celebuzz’s Hollywood Power Index at No. 21. By the age of 28, the rhymester had his most lucrative year ever thanks to the top-selling album “Carter IV.” (Case in point: The LP sold nearly 1 million copies in its opening week.) But record sales were just peanuts compared to the money the artist made from touring. In just one year, Lil Wayne played 50 shows, earning nearly $600,000 per-night. Coupled with the launch of his clothing line, Trukfit, designing his own sneaker, Carter IV with Supra, and a multimillion dollar deal inked with Mountain Dew, the rapper’s bank account continues to swell. Nearly a year and a half since dropping “Carter IV,” Weezy is back to release his highly anticipated tenth solo LP, “I Am Not A Human Being.” The album, which will be released this month, features hip-hop stars like Future and Drake on tracks like “Good Kush & Alcohol.” The rapper even says that hit maker Kanye West reached out to him to help with his album’s packaging.
Lil Wayne's prison memoir, Gone Till November, is set to be released March 14, 2013. The memoir chronicles his life from March to November of 2010. Take a look at his recently revealed cover art and pre-order the book. How does Lil Wayne stack up against the competition? See what Celebuzz’s experts have to say in the video below.

J-Hud on ‘American Idol’ Judges: Mimi Works, But the Rest… Posted: 08 Feb 2013 10:07 AM PST When it comes to the new judges on American Idol, Jennifer Hudson isn’t singing praises. “It’s taken a bit to get used to the new judges. I come from American Idol, so I’m used to seeing Simon, Paula and Randy,” she explained about the latest season during a visit on Live with Kelly & Michael on Friday morning. ”So now it’s new faces, and to me, [Cowell, Abdul and Jackson] represented the show. It’s kind of awkward for me to see it with new judges.” If she were still on the show, how exactly would Hudson respond to their critiques?
“Well, I’m happy that [Mariah Carey]‘s there because she’s a singer, so she knows what to expect, how to judge, even the position that the kids are in when they’re auditioning,” she said. But what about the other new judges, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban? Hudson quickly deflected questions regarding the topic by avoiding them. She said, to laughs from the crowd, “Ummm, yes.” Despite her opinion on the changes, the season 3 contestant still holds the show in high regard. “American Idol changed the face of television,” she told Celebuzz's The Daily Buzz host Hyla. “So, not everyone can say that. And, it’s always been a phenomenon. I’m proud to have come from American Idol, so I just say, go out on top.” When it came to her recent performance at the Super Bowl, Hudson got emotional about collaborating with the students from Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn. “We were supposed to rehearse the song and I couldn’t get through the song,” she revealed. “I’m supposed to be here singing with the kids and I can’t even get through the song. They’re looking up at me and to think they were put in that position.” In addition to the Super Bowl, the 31-year-old also showed off her vocal prowess at another national stage: President Barack Obama‘s inauguration in January, an experience that forever changed her life. Hudson performed at Obama’s 2009 ceremony, and this time around was personally emailed by the POTUS and his wife about performing during their first dance during the inaugural ball. “I was like, ‘I get to do the inauguration and I get to do the first dance!’” she joked. “I’m gonna frame that and put it in my house somewhere.” It’s been quite the year for Hudson, who is currently starring in NBC’s Smash as Veronica “Ronnie” Moore, a Tony Award-winning Broadway star. Speaking of stars, the Oscar winner will also be the latest recipient on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “It’s so exciting, when I heard about that, I was like, “Wait, I get a star? I haven’t done enough yet!” she gushed. “It’s such an amazing honor. I’m still in awe.” But at the end of her busy days, Hudson relishes in spending quality time with her 3-year-old son David, who’s become known for giving his mom a few fashion tips. “He brings me shoes. If I have on something he [doesn't] like, “Mommy, what is that? I don’t like that. Take that off,” she said. Given his headstrong personality, Hudson — who’s been engaged to fiance David Otunga since 2008 — revealed her little boy even gave himself a new moniker: “Boss Baby.” Launch the video to watch J-Hud dish on American Idol. Then, tell us: What do you think of the new judges and season so far? Voice out in the comments, below. |
Whitney Port’s Fashion Week Survival Guide Posted: 08 Feb 2013 09:05 AM PST Reality star-turned-fashion designer, Whitney Port is no stranger to New York Fashion Week. Not only has she had a front-row seat at the most-coveted shows, but she’s also been on the other end of the runway, designing and showing her own collection for her self-titled Whitney Eve line. Needless to say, there’s no one better-equipped to offer advice for getting through the whirlwind schedule of shows, parties, fashion and fun. Here, she shares her secrets to surviving New York Fashion Week in style.
Upkeep is Key. I try to always have a manicure and upkeep my hair color and cut, so when I’m showing my own collection, prepping for the show is priority. Sleep — and Eat! Get as much sleep as you can — and fuel up on healthy snacks throughout the day. You're going to feel so much better if you do. Staying hydrated is key too. I'm not biggest fan of water, but I I try to drink juices and sparkling water throughout the day. Something Has to Give — and That’s Okay. In the past, I haven’t worked out during Fashion Week. The amount you're on your feet and running around is too much to balance with working out. I'm not a crazy gym rat normally though, so I don't feel guilty if I'm not going all the time. Pack Your Purse. I always have snacks like little bars and packs of nuts in my purse to get me through the day. I always have a little makeup bag with a portable perfume so I smell fine, a powder blush, and probably a lip gloss because that's an easy fix, and maybe a hair tie if I need to throw my hair up in bun. When it's cold, I'll bring a scarf with me too — and always a phone charger. Carry Flats. If I’m working, I’m always in flats, but even if you’re running around to the shows, you should pack a pair of flats or comfy shoes. Map Out Your Outfits in Advance. I try to think about what I want to wear, and I lay it out the day before to make the whole getting-ready process easier. But, you know, sometimes in the heat of the moment, you're not happy with what you had planned and you change. If you're lucky, they’ll send you stuff from the collection to wear to the show, so you don’t have to worry about it. Stick to a Fail-Proof Uniform. It depends on which time of year it is, but a dress, blazer and heels is a good go-to outfit. Be Strategic with Your Schedule. I think the hardest part is managing your schedule. I always have my organizer with me. I still have old-school calendar — I need to write everything down in order for it to register. If you’re planning to change between shows (which many people like to do), book a room by Lincoln Center, so you can pop back to the hotel and change — or pack a big bag. Invest in Chic Outerwear. I think the key [to looking good when it's cold and snowy] is a really great coat and scarf. Bundling up is never super fashionable, but your outer layer is the most important. My winter coats are usually casual puffy jackets, so I end up wearing a cool blazer that doesn't keep me warm during the February shows — but sometimes you have to suffer to look good. Switch Up Your Accessories. I like to change up my bag depending on where I’m going and my outfit: If I’m working, it might be a big bucket bag, a crossbody for running from show to show, and a clutch for a night out. Not Going to Fashion Week? Follow Your Favorite Designers From Home. Even though I’m staying in L.A. to work on my own collection this season, I'll still follow the shows. I always love to see what Philip Lim and Alexander Wang do, and obviously Marc Jacobs — those are always some fun ones to watch. Check out Port’s new spring collection for Whitney Eve. Shop the collection and see Whitney Eve’s newly-redesigned website when it launches on February 15. What are your tricks for looking great during crazy busy times? And which shows are you most excited to follow during NYFW? |
Nemo’s Sitting Front Row at NYFW — Whether They Like it or Not Posted: 08 Feb 2013 08:39 AM PST The East Coast is bracing for blizzard Nemo. But even before the first snowflake fell, the storm started wreaking havoc on Hollywood’s schedule. With over 3,700 flights being canceled in anticipation of what could be a historic whiteout, several industry events could feel the consequences of thwarted travel plans. Out on the West Coast, Los Angeles is set to host the Grammy Awards (Sunday), the American Society of Cinematographers Awards (Sunday) and the Sci-Tech Oscars (Saturday), all of which could see ripple effects from grounded flights. And in New York City, where snow began to fall Friday morning, Nemo is already altering the lineup for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, which kicked off on Wednesday. Designer Marc Jacobs has decided to rescheduled his collection show from Monday, Feb. 11, to Thursday, Feb. 14, due to customs and delivery delays, according to WWD. Though the collection show will still take place at the Lexington Armory, the show could not move forward as they are “missing bags, shoes and two fabrics, ” Marc Jacobs International president Robert Duffy said. While other have yet to follow suit, Jacobs likely won’t the only label burdened by Nemo-related hindrances. For designers who do decide to postpone — whether it be for stalled shipments or canceled flights — they may follow Jacobs’ lead in shifting to next Thursday, which seems to be the lightest day on this year’s Fashion Week schedule. Meanwhile, other designers are simply missing out on their moment in the NYFW spotlight due. Fashion maven Jenni Kayne is marooned in California due to flight cancellations and will miss her collection’s presentation, slated for Friday at 11 AM, entirely. |
‘Kourtney and Kim Take Miami’ Clip: Scott, Bruce Clash at Dragon Boat Practice (VIDEO) Posted: 08 Feb 2013 12:12 PM PST Things get pretty tense between Scott Disick and Bruce Jenner on the next episode of Kourtney and Kim Take Miami as the families prepare to participate in the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival. In the clip above, available exclusively on Kim and Kourtney’s blogs, Disick’s patience is severely tested after he’s dragged to an impromptu practice by Jenner. “[Bruce is] so overly competitive, it ruins all the fun for me,” Disick says to the cameras as Jenner is heard yelling, “Man up! Let’s go. This is really sad.”
Very quickly, Disick decides he’s had enough with Jenner’s Olympic-style training and storms out of the practice session. “Bruce is trying to take digs at me, trying to belittle me. This is the last thing I feel like doing,” he says at the end of the clip. Watch it now in the video, above. Kourtney and Kim Take Miami airs Sunday nights at 9PM on E!.

Before you head off to do all the fun things you have planned, can you help us out by adding a caption to this photo of Britney Spears? If you aren't feeling inspired, check out the results of yesterday's #CaptionContest. Now, you’re ready to play along: 1) Type your caption out in the comments. Alternatively, you can use photo-editing software to add a caption to the photo and upload your entry into the comments. 2) Have fun and be creative! 3) Check back on Monday to see if your caption has been selected and for a new caption challenge.
