Zac Efron Chooses Cars, Girls Over Family Business in ‘At Any Price’ (VIDEO)

Posted: 19 Jan 2013 12:51 PM PST

Zac Efron may be all bundled up on the New York set of his new romantic comedy these days, but in his upcoming drama At Any Price, the situation is quite the opposite.

In the new trailer for the new Ramin Bahrani film, unleashed by Sony Pictures Classics on Friday, Efron strips down to a tank top in several scenes, gets sweaty in another, and makes out with Heather Graham in the next.

Efron, 25, is Dean Whipple, son of Henry Whipple (Dennis Quaid), an Iowa seed farmer who wants his firstborn to continue the family business.

The problem? Henry wants to race cars and one day, compete in Nascar.

In September, following the film's screening at the Toronto International Film Festival, Roger Ebert called the picture "a brave, layered film that challenges the wisdom of victory at any price."

"Both of its central characters would slip easily into conventional plot formulas, but Bahrani looks deeply into their souls and finds so much more."

At Any Price opens in April.

What do you think of Zac Efron's latest role? Watch the trailer for 'At Any Price,' above, and weigh in below.

No Beef Here: Taylor Swift and Michael J. Fox Are ‘Good’

Posted: 19 Jan 2013 12:37 PM PST

When it comes to songwriting, Taylor Swift already has a bevy of muses — ex boyfriends — to choose from.

But it probably still stung when Michael J. Fox had the following reaction to the possibility of a relationship between the country superstar and his 23-year-old son Sam:

Fox told Vulture, "No. No . . . Just back off . . . but Taylor Swift writes a song about everybody she goes out with, right?

"What a way to build a career."

The Back to the Future actor even tried his hand on naming a potential song his son could inspire.

"'Sam, You Piece of S**t.' Oh . . . that was the girl you brought home!"

On Friday, according to Swift's tweet, the actor spoke to the "Trouble" singer directly on the matter.

"Hey everybody, Michael J. Fox got in touch with me today and we are good. Thank you for having my back," she wrote.

The whole idea of Swift and Fox's firstborn all started last Sunday, when Golden Globes co-host Tina Fey took a jab at the singer's love life.

"You know what, Taylor Swift? You stay away from Michael J. Fox's son," the 30 Rock star said.

Swift's romance with One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles fizzled in January after 37 days of dating.

Who do you think Taylor Swift should date next? Check out our suggestions in the gallery, above, and share your suggestions below.

Kim Kardashian is one busy lady.

After a few days in New York City and a brief stopover at home in Los Angeles, the reality TV star hit the road again, this time traveling all the way to the Ivory Coast.

On Friday, the 32-year-old was spotted landing in Abidjan, where she is scheduled to make appearances at two private events.

"11 hr flight . . . 6 hrs to go!!! #nomakeup #nofilter," she wrote on Twitter, along with an Instagram self-portrait of herself.

Kardashian, who is expecting her first child with beau Kanye West, covered up her tiny baby bump in a black shirt, black pants and beige trench coat for the solo trip.

Earlier in the day, Kardashian teamed up with Celebuzz to answer questions from a few lucky fans on Twitter.

In response to a question about the biggest misconception about her family, the star wrote, "That we are in competition with each other. We support each other through thick and thin. Family is everything."

Check out the gallery, above, for photos of Kim Kardashian arriving in the Ivory Coast. What do you think of her pregnancy style so far? Weigh in below.

What the Puck: The 6 1/2 Best Hockey Movies Ever Made (PHOTOS)

Goon (2012) Miracle (2004) Mystery, Alaska (1999) Happy Gilmore (1996) The Mighty Ducks (1992) Youngblood (1986)

Hockey fans, rejoice! The NHL begins its latest season Saturday with plenty of puck-smashing, hip-checking, tooth-flying action, giving stateside sports fans a look at what truly tough athletes look like.

To commemorate the start of the new season, Celebuzz assembled a collection of hockey-themed films to prime neophytes and reintroduce veterans to bloody good time that the player have on the ice.

Click here to launch Celebuzz’ gallery of the greatest hockey films ever made

If you’ll notice, we selected six true hockey films, and one that’s sort of more incidentally a celebration of the sport. But then again, any instance where Adam Sandler is angrily pummeling Bob Barker in the midst of an otherwise civilized game of golf seems exceedingly appropriate for our list.

What if anything did we forget? Take a look at the trailer for last year’s criminally-underrated comedy Goon, and then let us know in the comments section below which is your favorite film about hockey!

Lance Armstrong on Telling Son About Doping: ‘He Trusted Me’

Posted: 19 Jan 2013 12:41 PM PST

Lance Armstrong Lance Armstrong Lance Armstrong Lance Armstrong Lance Armstrong Lance Armstrong Lance Armstrong

Since his public downfall last year, Lance Armstrong has faced many, many critics. But facing his own children over the holidays was a whole different bike route.

During part two of Armstrong's revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired Friday night on OWN, things got personal — and emotional.

"First I want to tell you what happened. When this all really started, I saw my son defending me and saying, 'That's not true. What you're saying about my dad is not true,'" he told Winfrey in the exclusive sit-down.

"And it almost goes to this question of why now? He can't — yeah. That's when I knew I had to tell him. And he never asked me. He never said, 'Dad, is this true?' He trusted me."

"I said, 'Listen, there's been a lot of questions about your dad. My career, whether I doped or did not dope. I've always denied that and I've always been ruthless and defiant about that, you guys have seen that, that's probably why you trusted me on it.' Which makes it even sicker."

"I said, 'I want you to know that it’s true.'"

Armstrong also told his 11-year-old twin daughters Isabelle Rose and Grace Elisabeth. Along with Luke, the twins are Armstrong's children with his first wife Kristin.

"They didn't say much. They didn't say, 'But wait, dad.' They just accepted it. And I told Luke, I said, 'Don't defend me anymore. Don't.'"

Armstrong noted that it was Kristin who asked him to stay clean ahead of his 2009 comeback at the Tour de France.

"It was a serious ask. It was a serious commitment. She gave me her blessing. If she would have said no, I don't like this idea, I would not have done it. But I gave her my word, and I did stick to it."

He finished third, but the feat has since been voided.

During part one of his interview with Winfrey, the famous cyclist admitted to using "banned drugs and blood transfusions" in all of his seven Tour de France wins, the most recent being in 2005. In October 2012, Armstrong was formally stripped of his seven Tour titles.

On Thursday, USADA CEO Travis T. Tygart released the following statement in response to the admission:

"Tonight, Lance Armstrong finally acknowledged that his cycling career was built on a powerful combination of doping and deceit. His admission that he doped throughout his career is a small step in the right direction. But if he is sincere in his desire to correct his past mistakes, he will testify under oath about the full extent of his doping activities."

So what could happen to Armstrong in the name of the law, following his televised confession?

"There is nothing but a downside for him in terms of giving that interview," criminal lawyer Darren Kavinoky told Celebuzz this week. "Some of that may be cushioned because of the statute of limitations.”

On the criminal side, Kavinoky said Armstrong could face everything from conspiracy to embezzlement or fraud, or even racketeering because it's a business-related crime.

"On the side of fighting about money, he could be forced to write a check for about a zillion dollars," Kavinoky said, adding that things could get ugly if someone like Floyd Landis came after Armstrong.

As for all those sponsors?

According to Kavinoky, "Whether or not they would actually [sue] would depend on their own PR desires. They may want to go after that money because we are going to draw a hard line, we're anti cheating and this is what we do . . . from a legal stand point they will have a claim based on the fraud."

Still, there are some benefits from doing an interview with someone like Winfrey, Kavinoky says.

"Let's face it, as much as we love to build people up, we love to see them fall and then we love to see them resurrected again."

"The world loves a comeback story."

What do you think will happen to Lance Armstrong, legally and in the eye of the public, after his Oprah Winfrey interview? Do you think he will ever make a comeback? Weigh in below.

Jessica Chastain Says Her Oscar Nomination Started a ‘Bittersweet Birthday’

Posted: 19 Jan 2013 12:40 PM PST

Two years ago, you would be forgiven if you'd never heard of Jessica Chastain. But after a breakout year in 2011, in which she starred in no less than seven critically acclaimed movies and garnered an Oscar nod for her portrayal of Celia Foote in The Help, Chastain has cast an indelible mark on Hollywood.

After being nominated on her birthday by the Academy last week for her portrayal of a tenacious CIA agent in pursuit of Osama Bin Laden in Zero Dark Thirty, Chastain won the Golden Globe Sunday night and appears to be front runner for the Oscar.

"It was a bittersweet birthday for me because I was on an airplane and I woke up," Chastain told reporters at the Globes last weekend. "Then Kathryn Bigelow came over to me and said, 'Congratulations. You got nominated for an Oscar.' And I was so excited I wanted to scream and, like, yelp, but then I was afraid I was going to get duct-taped in my seat by an airline employee."

Originally from a Northern California suburb, Chastain trained at the prestigious Julliard Conservatory then worked on stage and in guest spots on TV to hone her craft.

In 2011, she played roles as varied as a rural homicide cop in Texas Killing Fields, a Shakespearean princess in Coriolanus, and a neglected housewife during the Civil Rights era in The Help. But her big break came playing the saintly mother in 2011's The Tree Of Life which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes and was nominated for Best Picture.

"All of a sudden I started getting all these scripts sent to me which was really devoted wives and mothers," said Chastain. "If someone tries to type me, I'm super stubborn and I will do the opposite."

This tendency led her to Mama, a horror film in which she stars as a punk-rocker bassist whose missing nieces are discovered in a forest after five years. She and her boyfriend, (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) take in the children only to discover they may not have been so alone in the forest after all.

"I was definitely moved by the hero's journey, this woman becoming a hero, becoming a selfless person," said Chastain. "I kind of liked that in the beginning she's a bit of a bitch. She's a little unlikable. She's a little selfish and she grows a heart of gold in the end."

Like her fellow nominees, a statue of gold is what Chastain hopes to be hoisting come Oscar night. Last year, she attended the ceremony with her grandmother, who will probably accompany her this year, too.

"She's so much fun," laughed the redhead. "Going with her, it's just such a reminder to enjoy it and not take it seriously."

In 2013, she'll be seen in Tar, an omnibus look at author C.K.Williams' life, and opposite James McAvoy in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby about the ups and downs in the relationship of a New York City couple.

Beyond that, who can say? One things for sure is a Golden Globe win and a Best Actress nomination bode well for Chastain.

"Because of last year, it means that a director like Kathryn Bigelow will call me on the phone and ask me to be in her movie," said the actress. "Who is going to call me this year? It is really exciting."

Pamela Anderson's latest hairstyle created quite the buzz in Amsterdam on Friday.

The 45-year-old blonde bombshell was all smiles as she was spotted leaving her hotel with a brand new beehive.

Anderson, who was recently booted from the UK version of Dancing on Ice, is in town for the Dutch version of the show.

Dancing on Ice is the latest reality TV show to be added to Anderson's resume. Her previous gigs have included Dancing With the Stars, Big Brother UK and Big Brother Australia.

‘Broken City’: Is Mark Wahlberg’s New Thriller a Worthy Follow-Up to ‘Ted’?

Posted: 17 Jan 2013 05:23 PM PST

Mark Wahlberg follows up the biggest box office hit of his career, last summer’s Ted, with the crime thriller Broken City.

In the film, Wahlberg plays a fallen New York cop-turned-private eye who gets caught up in big city corruption centered around the Mayor (Russell Crowe) and his philandering wife, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Broken City, director Allen Hughes‘ first solo effort without his brother Albert, sat on a shelf for quite some time and, according to the critics, it should have stayed there.

Alonso Duralde, TheWrap

"First-time screenwriter Brian Tucker's script starts strong, laying the groundwork for what feels like a wonderfully labyrinthine web where corruption and deceit meet personal weaknesses and political hubris, but by the film's rushed and sloppy third act, the whole thing collapses into a very familiar and not particularly compelling heap."

Marshall Fine, The Huffington Post

"Broken City isn’t awful, just kind of pale and predictable… As roguish and attractive as the mayor is supposed to be, Crowe can’t do much more than reveal his shiftiness amid the bluster. Wahlberg, meanwhile, brings his B game; he’s present but seldom seems engaged in what he’s doing."

Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter

"Hughes’ direction is haphazard; some scenes seem perfunctory — even useless — others never find their dramatic centers, a few are all right. Wahlberg, who also co-produced, does his bulldog blue-collar thing with practiced determination."

Nathan Rabin, The A.V. Club

"In spite of some punchy scenes, crackling dialogue, and fine performances, Broken City is hopelessly overmatched. It has Academy Award dreams, but a detective-show heart."

Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

"I can’t tell you with a straight face Broken City is any good, but I can make the case you’ll have a good time even when the screenplay is breaking bad."

Will you defy the critics this weekend and see Broken City anyway? Watch the film’s theatrical trailer, and then sound off in the comments below.

Oh, Lance.

After years of denials, cyclist Lance Armstrong finally opened up about using performance-enhancing drugs during his Tour de France career.

"I view this situation as one big lie that I repeated a lot of times," he told Oprah Winfrey this week.

Another big headline of the week belonged to Mother Monster, who had a controversial clothing choice for one of her recent concerts.

Lady Gaga, who recently kicked off the North American leg of her Born This Way Ball in Vancouver, Canada, turned heads when she wore a bra with fake guns on stage.

Meanwhile, another big pop star, Justin Bieber, was spotted getting some new ink on his chest.

Megan Fox, Kim Kardashian, Selena Gomez: Top 10 Celebrity Quotes of the Week (GALLERY)

Jodie Foster David Arquette Elizabeth Banks Jessica Simpson Kim Kardashian Megan Fox

"At the end of the day, love is such a normal thing, and everyone deals with it. Just because it’s a different lifestyle doesn’t change the meaning of what I’ve been raised on, which is fairy tales."

Which Hollywood princess said she still believes in fairy tales?

Was it Megan Fox, Kim Kardashian or Selena Gomez?

Find out in Celebuzz's top quotes of the week.

Who was the brown-haired beauty that said love should be like a fantasy?

It was Selena Gomez!

The 20-year-old actress dished on love and fairy tales to Nylon magazine.

And until recently, it seemed the Disney Channel diva was living out that fairy tale romance with boyfriend and pop sensation Justin Bieber. The duo reigned supreme as king and queen of the teenybopper world, until things took a turn for the worse.

After about two years of dating, reports surfaced in November that Selena & Justin were on the outs. Amidst break-up rumors, the couple met up to rekindle their romance, but at the end of the day, they just couldn't make it work. The two reportedly made the split official this week after a New Year’s Eve blowup in Puerto Vallarta.

Could it be young Selena is ready to write a new tale?

In this pre-Biebs break-up interview, the young starlet alluded to the lax nature of her and Justin's relationship. “I’m having fun," she said casually.

No matter her direction, at least she's got best friends like Taylor Swift by her side.

"We both experienced the same things at the same time," Gomez said of her notoriously serial-dating pal in the interview. "She just became the person I’d go to for an issue with my family or boyfriend. It’s so hard to trust girls, so I’m lucky to have her."

Here's hoping Jelena weathers the storm!

Do you think the pop star pair will give young love another chance? Sound off in the comments below.

Expect a ‘High Body Count’ and ‘a Little Lust’ on ‘Deadly Sins’ (EXCLUSIVE VIDEO)

Posted: 19 Jan 2013 02:49 AM PST

Deadly Sins: The Playboy and the Seductress

Investigation Discovery's second season of crime series, Deadly Sins, is in full swing and viewers can always expect the show to find a "sexy" way to tell its sordid tales of deception.

"We use the 'seven deadlies' of lust, greed, gluttony, envy, pride, wrath, and sloth as a way to analyze and try to understand extreme forms of human misbehavior," host and executive producer Darren Kavinoky tells Celebuzz. "Extreme misbehavior may be a bit of an understatement; there are always dead bodies on Deadly Sins!"

There are a other aspects to the show that set it apart from other crime series. One of them being its cinematic style. "The entire creative team, from the executives at Discovery ID to the 'boots on the ground' that shoot every scene, are perfectionists," Kavinoky explains.

"They insist that every camera angle be scrutinized, every lighting option be considered, every bit of audio be delivered with clarity and proper inflexion. Fundamentally, they are all lovers of great TV shows and films, so it isn’t surprising that they developed a really gorgeous signature style."

But, really, the series is all about telling a story. And it makes sure that no matter what the episode is about, there are aspects viewers can always rely on.

"You can also expect a little lust in every episode – this show is part of ID’s 'Red Hot Saturday Nights' lineup, after all," exclaims Kavinoky. "And, it seems that of all the sins, lust is a fan favorite! Of course, given the title, you can expect a relatively high body count. And of course, you can always expect a little insight and a lot of sarcasm from me."

On Saturday's new episode, "The Playboy and the Seductress," the series looks at two cases, which probably take a bit from each one of the deadly sins between them.

We were particularly drawn to the case of David Mead [the Playboy], because it’s such a cautionary tale of what can happen when a lustful and gluttonous pathological liar begins to believe his own lies," says the host.

On the second tale, the series follows the trail of Miriam Helmick [the Seductress], who moves from Florida to Colorado to escape her criminal past.

"But as the saying goes, wherever you go, there you are," Kavinoky tells us. "And a lying, scheming, sinful woman like Miriam Helmick is not able to change her spots."

Watch Celebuzz's exclusive sneak peek at Saturday's episode above.

Deadly Sins airs Saturdays at 9PM on Investigation Discovery.

Lance Armstrong’s Dad: He Was Not Humble (EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW)

Posted: 18 Jan 2013 04:00 PM PST

Terry Armstrong says his so wasn't humble.

Lance Armstrong's dad watched his son confess to millions that he took performance-enhancing drugs during his years as the most decorated champion in cycling history. But unlike the rest of the world, his emotions came from a paternal place.

"It was rather tough to watch. It was very emotional for me because I still remember the little boy," Terry Armstrong told Celebuzz.

In the no-holds-barred interview with Oprah Winfrey on Thurdsay, the shamed cyclist stopped back-pedaling as he had done for years, admitting “I was trying to win at all costs" – an admission Terry is still trying to come to terms with.

"The thing that was hardest for me when I was coaching him in Little League and football, is I instilled in him the foundation of winning," Terry said.

After over a decade of adamant denials, Lance, who was adopted by Terry when he was three years old, answered "yes" to not only using blood-enhancing hormone EPO, but also testosterone, cortisone, human growth hormone, and illegal blood transfusions and other blood doping, all of which began back in the mid-1990s.

His father, whose been estranged from the now-disgraced sports legend for years since divorcing his mother Linda, had hoped to see the genuine side of his son shine through, which has come under mixed reviews in the hours after Part 1 of the exclusive interview, which drew a record 4.3 million viewers to the OWN network.

But the sincerity was lacking.

"The thing people will probably look at and say is there's nothing sincere there," Terry said.

"When you've been at that high of a level for so long it's hard to come back down.

"In the best way he could do, he was doing it. His persona is so high in his mind it's hard to come across humble," he added.

"If you're controlling everything you want to control, your answers and not come across as vulnerable. But I think people were hoping for vulnerability and they're not going to get it."

However, Lance didn't let himself off the hook, calling himself "deeply flawed", even going so far as to try to offer an explanation for his decade-long deceit.

"We grew up as fighters," he said, referring to his mother. "We always felt like we had our backs against the walls."

This defensive description took Terry by surprise.

"When I heard that I thought of the word 'spin.’ If someone just looks at the things he was afforded growing up, the conditions he lived in, the houses, that's not surviving," Terry said. "He never did without anything, but that doesn't sell well.

"But Linda and Lance have spun that story for this long. The spin is that they were single and had to scrounge around for money. That's not true."

In a previous exclusive interview with Celebuzz, Terry said he believed the American public would forgive his son if, in fact, he confessed the truth – which he did. And for that, Terry is proud.

"I wanted him to answer the facts. He did answer the facts," he said. "He just didn't do it the way people wanted him to.

"I think the public is trying to sense how they would do it and it's hard for a public figure to do that.

"At this stage it's not him."

For now, Terry will save his conclusions till the very end.

"I want to get it all. I still have to see what the ending is," he said. "It will be interesting to see how the second part comes across."

Oprah and Lance Armstrong: The Worldwide Exclusive Part 2 airs Friday at 9PM on OWN.

7 Secrets to Justin Timberlake’s Solo Success

Fifty million records sold, six Grammy awards and four Emmys…and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Justin Timberlake may have had humble beginnings — we first got a glimpse of him on The New Mickey Mouse Club in the ’90s — but the now-31-year-old has grown into a bonafide megastar.

In 1995, Timberlake joined pop group ‘N SYNC, which went on to sell a whopping 50 million albums. Just two  years later, he launched a successful solo career that spawned hits like “SexyBack,” “Cry Me a River,” and “What Goes Around…Comes Around.” The latest feather in his cap: “Suit & Tie,” the brand-new Jay-Z assisted single that’s already scaling the charts.

But how did JT achieve so much at the young age of 31? Here are seven secrets to his success:

1. START A FASHION EMPIRE. In 2006, Timberlake and pal Trace Ayala launched the William Rast clothing line, named after a combination of their grandfather’s first and last names.  The label focuses on denim but also produces outerwear and sportswear for both men and women. In 2011, William Rast branched out and formed a limited partnership with Target.

2. MARRY AN A-LIST ACTRESS. Timberlake dated Britney Spears and Cameron Diaz and was linked to Scarlett Johansson. But it was Jessica Biel who finally got him down they aisle; they wed in Fasano, Italy, on October 12, 2012 — and it sure ups his ante to have an equally famous partner.

3. STAY AWAY LONG ENOUGH TO BE MISSED. JT has released just two albums in 10 years: 2002′s Justified and 2006′s Future Sex/Love Sounds — and his fans have been feverishly waiting for a taste of what’s next, as evidenced by the success of “Shirt & Tie.” There’s more to come: the singer recently touted his upcoming album on his website, saying, "I'm calling it The 20/20 Experience and it's coming out this year. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it. That's all I'm giving you for now… I know, I know! Again, with the teasing!!!"

4. CONQUER THE BIG SCREEN.  In 2006, Timberlake took a hiatus from music and was bit by the acting bug. His breakout film was Alpha Dog. In 2010, he played Sean Parker, the co-founder of Napster, in the Oscar-winning film The Social Network. He’s also starred in Bad Teacher, Friends with Benefits alongside Mila Kunis, and In Time with Amanda Seyfried.

5. BUY A PIECE OF THE WEB. Not only does he appear in movies about social networking sites, but he buys them too! JT is a partner in MySpace; the new site launched on January 15.

Look of the Day: Scarlett Johansson (PHOTOS)

Posted: 18 Jan 2013 04:58 PM PST

Scarlett Johansson donned a fitted jacket and trousers to the premiere of her Broadway play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

The actress took a less traditional approach and went for the always-chic pantsuit look instead of a designer gown.

Johansson, who’s always been one to take fashion risks, paired the menswear-inspired look with classic pumps, bold turquoise earrings and a red lip on her famous pout.

Johansson knocked the look out of the park by honoring her hourglass figure with a waist-cinching jacket.

She balanced the flawlessly-tailored jacket with fitted pants to show off her curvy shape.

Some of Hollywood’s finest jumped at the chance to see Johansson take center stage. James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, and wife Rachel Weisz were one of the famous faces that took to their seats to watch the actress perform.

What do you think about ScarJo’s red carpet look? Weigh in below.
